Ken Moreano, Executive Director – Scott Technology Center and President – Scott Data Center, joined the Center in May 2002.  He has led the efforts to develop the Center’s 20-acre campus into approximately 250,000 square feet of Research, Development, Data Center and Incubator facilities. As the President of the 110,000 square foot Scott Data Center, Mr. Moreano oversees the second multi-tenant data center facility in the United States to achieve the Uptime Institute Tier III certification in both Design and Construction.
Ken is an authorized agent for the Suzanne & Walter Scott Foundation. Engaging with a wide range of organizations from start-up companies to well established corporations; the Scott Technology Center's mission is to develop and facilitate the commercialization of emerging technologies while adding value to partnerships with industry, government and academia. The Technology Center provides a broad range of support, hosting information science & technology and engineering related activities.
In 2010 Mr. Moreano led the development and funding of the National Innovation Fund, LP - a venture investment fund focused on start-up and early stage Small Business Innovation Research grant companies. In 2014 Mr. Moreano, became a co-founder of both the Aksarben Innovation Initiative and the Aksarben Discovery Fund I, LP (Seed stage fund predicated on the Evidence Based (“Lean Start-up”) approach). Ken serves as Co-General Partner in the ADF GP and as an investor in the Aksarben Discovery Fund I LP. During the 17+ years at Scott Technology, Ken has advised, operated, invested in and/or developed over 30 start-ups.
Prior to Mr. Moreano’s involvement with the Scott Technology Center, he was the founder of an early-stage healthcare technology company (Exernet Corporation) established in Austin, Texas (1999). As the founder, Ken successfully led the fund raising, investor relations and recruitment of the management team. Additional responsibilities included business operations, product development, strategic partnerships and eventually as CEO during a restructuring effort.
